Setting limits: an act of self-respect, and a lever for successful recruitment

All too often, we exceed our own abilities without listening to our real needs: out of a lack of confidence, legitimacy or fear of disappointing others.
Yet learning to say no is also learning to respect yourself.
In a professional world where performance and availability are often valued to the detriment of personal balance, it’s becoming essential to know how to set our own limits.

In this new episode of Care by Benjamin Le Botland, Érik Clavery and Claire Garin talk to us about this essential subject.

Dare to recruit better and get hired!

    💡 WHAT WE’VE LEARNT:

Setting clear limits not only helps to preserve your mental and physical balance, but also lays the foundations for a healthy and transparent relationship with your future employer. When recruiting, expressing your needs and your limits encourages genuine alignment between the candidate’s expectations and those of the company, thereby reducing the risk of frustration, stress or burnout once in post. A candidate who is able to communicate his or her limits demonstrates a valuable emotional intelligence, sought after by employers concerned with well-being and sustainable performance.

Accepting your own limits is an in-depth process, sometimes accompanied by professionals. In the workplace, it also means ensuring that you join an environment that suits you, that respects your limits and values your mental health, where you can flourish without putting yourself at risk. Organisations that incorporate these values right from the recruitment stage – by asking questions about well-being, presenting their support initiatives or adapting workloads – retain their talent better and improve their overall performance. Transparency on these subjects during interviews helps to avoid misunderstandings and promotes successful integration.

Respecting yourself is the key to achieving your objectives without burning out, but it’s also the key to long-term integration into a team where authenticity and well-being are recognised as assets. This means being able to communicate your limits clearly and assertively, negotiate your working conditions and prioritise your needs.

📢 WHAT ABOUT YOU? How do you define your limits? In an interview or in your job? Share in the comments!

📆 2025, a year to get to know and respect yourself better. A year to choose a professional environment that lives up to its values, where mental health is a pillar of collective success. Take care of yourself, listen to yourself… and dare to talk about it right from recruitment.
